The damp lands squelched underfoot as Tasunka tread forward, head low as he took in the woods before him. The end of winter meant that the warmer weather was upon them, a warmth to the breeze that touched his features but even still the mounds here were still capped with snow; the grounds still wet. Early afternoon brought with it broken sunlight as the trees led him forth. He had no destination in mind, simple wandering was enough for him. He’d met his fair share of mares and stallions this way, most quite cordial and though extensions had been given for him to join herds he’d declined thus far.

The memories he harboured from the only ever herd he was a part of seemed to draw him to seclusion.

The stallion sighed inwardly, searching for a spot of grass that wasn’t doused by melting snow, a place where he could feast aside the inclusion of the woods. He shook his neck, the tendrils of his mane lashing his coat. His forelock fell about his eyes, an intermingling of black and white that hovered over his blue eyes. Above the sun shimmered, rays that dappled his form, creating hues that weren’t usually there. The woods around him stirred with life, birds singing among the branches, rodents skittering in his wake. This place was alive, more so than even than the Smokey Forest or did it only seem that way because the woods were less dense. He paused to ponder this, shook his head and continued stopping only to pick his fair share of dry grasses from the ground and then moving forward.

So far, this trip had been quiet, nary a soul in sight and this trend could continue through his movements along the woods. Not that he would complain in company found him here along the quiet stillness. It had been a while since he’d struck up a conversation with another, it wasn’t something he was particularly good at.

The snapping of a branch in the distance caused his head to raise, ears perking at the sound, eyes suddenly alert. He didn’t dare call out, wariness snapping his tongue to the roof of his mouth. He would wait to be discovered, that is, if whatever lurked in the woods sought to be bared.
