it was eerily cool by the shoreline, ohio noted. she hadn’t stopped for miles, it felt like, but she finally made it back to the only familiar place she knew in this place. taking cover under a low hanging tree, the mare came to a slow stop by the waters edge. with the sun finally off of her, she leaned made no haste to break the surface and take a long drink. the tension in her body melted away as she sat there, lifting her head just slight to breathe before going back for more. once she had her fill, ohio turned back to survey the edge of the wood. sanguine waves clung to her cheek from the sweat, but she still pressed on to patrol down the river before doing anything else.

it wouldn’t be long before the sun set, she knew, so once she returned to the overgrown tree, ohio decided to dive head first into the river depths to cleanse herself of the day. the mare surfaced back and blew air from her nostrils, feeling the coolness prickling the nerves of her legs and underbelly. for a moment, ohio no longer felt like a weathered corpse — merely a youngling surrounded by love. the excitement continued to build in her chest until she was squealing and kicking up her heals in play. it wasn’t until a crackling back toward the beach caught her ear that ohio stopped mid rear, heart stricken in panic but face blank with indifference.

the comedown back to earth was quick, slushing through the water to get back to the sand. her ears flickered to and fro, trying to read the horse that looked nothing more than it was just passing through. ohio cocked her head, nudging the air in their direction. ”you almost scared me half to death,” the mare called. her tone was airy, allowing herself a second to rationalize. ”stealth isn’t your thing, is it?” in a strange turn of events, the red mare had a small smile on her face. the distance she wanted to keep was going to be impossible now, but something told her … that might be okay, today.

Promise with Cato

Life had been going really well for the dark coated beast. He'd been welcomed into a herd, had met one mare who he hoped would follow him home, and was currently working on finding more to bring home. He was a beast with a mission, to climb the ranks and become king of the herd he resided within. Though, he wondered if he would manage to do that, before another took the spot. Of course, he might just have to fight the other stallion that would try, and then earn the position like a true stallion. A smirk crossed his velveteen lips as he made his way towards Inlus River, ready to find more equines to entertain himself with and to potentially bring home. The sound of squealing caught his attention, so he made his way closer towards the shoreline. Though, he stopped as the sight of an equine kicking their heels up in play caught his attention. Arching an eyebrow, a laugh escaped his vocal cords, and was apparently a quite loud laugh as the mare seemed to freeze mid rear. Feathered hooves stood in the sand as he watched the mare make her way out of the water and up onto the sand. You almost scared me half to death.

Gazing at the mare with chocolate orbs, the ebony and ivory beast allowed his eyes to roam over her. She would make a good addition to his harem, he thought. Would she be so easily persuaded, though? That was definitely the main question that lay within his mind. I do apologize, miss, he cooed lightly, letting the lyrics slip past his kissers with ease, before adding, it's not every day I see a grown mare frolicking around like an foal at play. The words were spoken in a way that made it seem as though he were complimenting her. Stealth isn't your thing, is it? As he listened to her speak once more, he chuckled lightly. Well, if I'm to be quite honest, I am rather bulky, so I suppose it definitely is not. I shall have to work on that, he mused in response to her question. Perhaps you could show me a thing or two about stealth? He inquired, wondering if she would partake in his little inquiry. He wouldn't mind watching her hips sway back and forth as she moved stealthily through the area.

The name is Cato. What might I call the beauty before me? He allowed the greeting to escape, along with a small inquiry about her own name. The flirtatious tone of his voice easily escaped his vocal cords.

the mare’s ears flickered back, carefully soaking in his voice. it was hard to gauge the intent behind him at first glance; he was young, that much she could tell. something about him wreaked of power, but a kings approach was vastly different from this. ohio whipped her tail out in his direction, eyes widening, drenched in mischief. she liked games, sometimes. “so, you’re telling me that the mares around here are boring, then?” for once, she was enjoying the pleasure in the mundane. ohio shook out her mane some, eyes falling on his frame as he spoke of being bulky. she, too, couldn’t help but chuckle some.

“you wish to know about stealth?” she quipped, head cocking to the side just slight. “i must ask … what do you know about, young buck? you’re big, yes. a weapon of war, perhaps?” the question hung loosely in the air. the sensual flirtation sent a small shiver down her spine, deciding to lean into the moment to embrace it. it wasn’t like her, to say the least, but the waters of the inlus were energizing her tired bones.

“i’d teach you all there is t’know if you have the nerve.” the red mare sauntered forward then, urging him to follow with a whistle. ’the name is cato,’ he’d said. ’what might i call the beauty before me?’ ohio raised her gaze, taking a moment to survey their surroundings. for a brief second, she almost felt like taking off for the tree line. the rational part of her knew she was not feeble enough to succumb to a man’s trickery, but she wasn’t familiar enough with these lands. but, against the nerves, she finally offered her name: “ohio, by the way.” the grin grew wider. “don’t forget it.”

So, you're telling me that the mares around here are boring, then? At her words, he snickered lightly. In the sense of them frolicking around like foals at play, yes, they quite are, he commented easily. He watched her gaze roam over him and he allowed his own gaze to wander over her form. She was petite, but was definitely a mare he could find himself trying to claim for Redgrave Canyon, and himself, of course. When he had mentioned his bulkiness and had chuckled at the words, he had heard her chuckle right back. It was always nice to hear a mare chuckle, not just that, but it was also nice when you were involved in an easy conversation.

You wish to know about stealth? At her inquiry, he nodded his head slightly, yet playfully. She seemed almost confused that he would be inquiring about that, but in all honesty, he didn't feel like he really needed to know anything about stealth. After all, he was a beast built for battle, and would be damned if another thought they could get away from him with what he wanted. I must ask... what do you know about, young buck? You're big, yes. A weapon of war, perhaps? He heard the loosely hung questions as they remained in the air, whether unanswered or not. He thought about them for a mere moment and allowed his gaze one more chance to roam over her. I would definitely say that I am a weapon of war. I am built for battle and will not be taken down easily, he mused with ease in response to her questions.

I'd teach you all there is t'know if you have the nerve. At her words, intrigue peaked in him. He may not need to know about stealth, but he would be willing to learn about it from her, as long as it meant he got to stay in her company for awhile longer. As she sauntered forward, his gaze watched her rump sway with each step, but as she urged him to follow, his hooves picked up their own little rhythm. Believe me, doll, I have the nerve, he retorted in response to her words. Ohio, by the way, don't forget it. A smirk graced his muzzle at her words. It's a pleasure to meet you, Ohio, he started before slowly adding, I don't think I shall ever forget it. His hooves continued to carry him after her.
