The golden creature wore her emotions well, too well it seemed for Romeo picked up on her uncertainty, she could practically see the walls he built before them. What was she to say though, to the long-lost brother of her recently discovered lover. The triangle was, on its axis, quite complicated and thus to remain oblivious seemed the more reasonable option. The female attempted to compose herself, reaching deep down to strengthen her fortitude and appear, unfazed. By his reactions to her, she failed miserably.
He was wary of her, something she could have avoided by being upfront but that ship had sailed now, Elowyn was in too deep to start speaking the truth.
A long story... She thought. The abridged version she heard from Pierce; it would be interesting to hear the long version from the mouth of another. Different eyes telling different stories and all that. The mare took a gentle step toward the trees and laid herself upon the long grasses below. The evening sky cast pale rays across her coat, dappling her in gold.
”I’ve nothing but time, Romeo.” She offered this kindly, blinking in the pools of light from the moon overhead.
Things had seemed to take this conversation from good to worse, and frankly, Romeo wasn't sure whether or not he really wanted to continue this little encounter. Sure, he wanted to be the polite gentleman, but he also didn't want to feel anxious about a conversation that was clearly taking a turn for the worse. He watched as she attempted to compose herself, he had a feeling that she knew he was wary of her, and that he was debating on whether or not to tell her the truth. Would he tell her the truth? Or would he give her a different version? Unfortunately, however, he was against lying, unless it was absolutely necessary, but this wasn't one of those scenarios. I've nothing but time, Romeo. At her words, he glanced at her with a wary look within his sapphire voids. He could hear the kind tones of her vocals, but still was unsure on whether he should trust her.
Well, I guess I can tell you part of it. Though, since I don't fully know you, I will not reveal it all, he mused lightly, letting the lyrics slip free with ease. He took a few cautious steps away from the golden mare and glanced around at their surroundings, before turning his gaze back towards her. My brother had a fall out with our father over him not wanting to follow in our father's footsteps. He hadn't wanted to be King of the Moraine Mountains, so he had left, he started carefully, not wanting to reveal anything too important, like his brother's name. After a brief pause he said, when he left, he was told to never return. Unfortunately, however, our birth herd was attacked and our parents were on their deathbed. I went in search of my brother to bring him home, as he was the rightful heir, and deserved to see our parents before they passed. Though, when we had returned, our mother had already passed.
Another brief moment of silence as Romeo's mind wandered back to the past, back to his mother's lifeless body and his father's last breath of air before he too had passed away. A heavy sigh escaped his slightly flared nares. The meeting between the two did not go as planned. Our father denounced him as one of his sons, placed me in charge of the herd, and then my brother left that night, never to return, he ended the story. The story always brought pain and hurt back into his heart, but he managed to compose himself in front of the mare, not wanting to show any signs of weakness.

Among the verdant grasses, beneath a sky reserved for just them two, the moon swallowed the clouds and rained down on the pair. It was beautiful but also deadly, as if she’d wandered into enemy territory and for all reasons beyond her, she couldn’t figure why she even remained. Curiosity, perhaps, cemented her limbs in place, a shining example of her inability to shy away from the strange and unusual. The mare, eager as she was to learn on Pierce’s history, smoothed her features, laying her bodice down upon the grasses at her feet and listening to Romeo’s story.
It was a sad one, a tale she’d heard once already and yet from Romeo’s mouth it sounded so different. She detected something in beyond his tone, blame perhaps or guilt. Her eyes teared at the thought of his parents, arriving to a deceased mother and an angry father. Pierce must have blamed himself. She frowned, eyes turning downcast. When it was clear he’d finished speaking, Elowyn looked up to meet his eyes, doe optics finding his sapphire pools.
”I’m so sorry, Romeo.” She offered, as she truly was. Though her involvement has been less than, she felt she somehow owed him an apology, as if her mere offering could heal him. It couldn’t, deep down she knew that, and yet the words fell forth all the same. As apologetic as she was for Romeo though she was more so for Pierce, cast away for wanting more. She felt a sudden urge to comfort him, despite not being near him. She craved his warmth near her, wished he would purr words into her ear as he’d done before. The mare shook her head, an action that would stir her from her reveries.
”It’s seemed you’ve met with a tragic fate, both you and your brother.” Umber order were focused on him, alight with sympathy. ”I’m truly sorry for that.” She closed her eyes, the death of her own parents hovering along the forefronts of her brain. Death, as if was, followed them all it seemed. No matter how far any of them ran, they could never escape it.
”I am blessed that you offered that piece of yourself to me so willingly.” She bowed her head, appreciative, understanding.
It seemed as though the heavens felt Romeo's pain as rain poured down on the duo as he had spoken his tale. A tale that only a few had known about and now another knew. I'm so sorry, Romeo. He heard the mare speak as he noticed her eyes start to tear up, as well. Do not take pity on me, Elowyn, he mused lightly, not wanting another to pity him for the losses he had had to endure. It happens to the best of us, even when we don't expect it, he added, though the sadness was still deep within his tones. I only wish to reconcile with my brother in hopes that he can forgive me for taking over the land that was his birthright, he spoke with ease. Shaking his head slowly, he attempted to clear the dreaded thoughts out of his mind. He wanted nothing more than to find his brother, beg for his forgiveness, and hopefully form an alliance should his brother have his own herd.
It's seemed you've met with a tragic fate, both you and your brother. He heard her say as he noticed that her gaze stayed upon him. He could see the sympathy within them. I'm truly sorry for that. He dipped his crown slightly, willing the tears to not flow from his eyes. The last thing he wanted was to be seen as weak in front of someone who wasn't within his herd. When the thoughts of his past had disappeared from his mind and the tears no longer threatened to fall, he raised his crown once more and gazed at the lightly colored femme. I am blessed that you offered that piece of yourself to me so willingly. At her words, he watched as she bowed her head. It was not easy. That part of me had been hidden and kept secret for so long, not even most of my new herd know about it, he admitted. So, what brings you to this area? He inquired, wanting to veer away from the subject of his past.

The light of the moon stared down upon the pair, his striking appearance a reminder of whom she was speaking with. She’d not expected to run into her lover’s brother but learning of his past had been interesting to say the least. Pierce wasn’t hiding anything from her, she was sure he telling her everything but hearing it from the mouth of another whom had lived it was enlightening.
She softened as he requested to not pity him, lowering her head an iota. Such opposing positions, here upon the same earth.
”Well, thank you for sharing.” She lowered her eyes to him, peering at him beneath the locks of her pale mane. He teetered in the subject for a moment but it passed and he offered her an out, to change the topic at hand, moving the line of conversation to herself.
”Oh, me?” She paused, startled by the change in conversation. It took her a moment to process it, to understand that he wanted to know more of her. What was there to tell? Her family was dead and she was chasing ghosts through the fields, hoping she’d come across them. She did, ultimately find her ghost, but Romeo didn’t need to know that.
”Oh there isn’t much to tell, really. My father passed and then I had no family left...” She paused, looking up to the sky. She pictured her loved ones up there, looking down fondly upon her.
”I went in search of an old friend and, well, here we are.” She smiled thoughtfully, offering the stallion a gaze that said there wasn’t much more to tell and in reality, there wasn’t, except, you know, the obvious.
Well, thank you for sharing. As she spoke, he nodded is crown with ease. He watched as she lowered her head slightly, but also noticed the way her mane fell delicately over her facade. Oh, me? He heard her say before she paused. He wondered if she would even tell him about herself, or she would only get information out of him and then would leave. Oh there isn't much to tell, really. My father passed and then I had no family left... At her words, a soft sigh escaped his slightly parted lips. I'm sorry that you seemed to have faced the same fate as myself and my siblings, he mused lightly, letting the lyrics flow with the utmost of ease. He watched as her gaze drifted towards the heavens and he had a feeling that he knew exactly what she was picturing in her mind. The same thing he had pictured plenty of times before. His family up in the heavens looking down upon the earth.
He allowed his gaze to drift slowly from the heavens and back to the lightly colored femme. I went in search of an old friend and, well, here we are. He heard the words as they flowed from her lips and saw the smile that graced them afterwards. Though, he did happen to notice the gaze that she gave him. Well, Elowyn, I sure hope you have found that old friend, or are at least, closer to finding them, he said with hope in his voice. It was a lonely world and he would hate to see a mare out by herself without someone there to have conversation with, or to help defend yourself. A companion was always a good thing when one needed some time to rest, or even to just eat without having to worry.
